The Power of the Pen

Pens are a product both needed and wanted by every age and income group. In a recent PPAI study, 75% of respondents state they carry a pen with them at all times. And 8 out of 10 times they use a pen with advertising or company logos on them.

Pens are one of the most effective advertising promotional products to distribute because they get your name out there and seem by many. Think of it this way:

Every 1 person exposes a pen to 100 people. If 100 pens are given out,

then 1,000,000 people will have been exposed to the pen,

and more importantly, your company name!

PPAI also tested the recall on a group that had received at least one promotional pen in the last year. It was found that two thirds of them were able to recall the name of the advertiser who gave them the pen, and 52.5% could remember the product or service information imprinted on the pen! Respondents also tended to have a positive attitude towards the company and planned to use them in the future.

Additional Strategy to Advertise with Pens:

Chances are there is a large abundance of promotional pens piling up in your supply room cabinets at work. Seeing how impressive the recall of the name is after distribution, why keep them stashed away waiting to be used? Instead, have employees make a collective effort to randomly distribute them when running their errands. ‘Accidentally’ leave them at the bank, a restaurant, a store, the doctor’s office, the market-anywhere where you need to sign something. The pen will inevitably be picked up and exposed to other people while moving around town.
